Sunset beach may not be the first beach that comes to mind when you think of kitesurfing, but it’s still an excellent spot. Across the road is Dillingham Airfield, primarily used for skydiving and gliding tours. Just beware of an extremely shallow reef at low tide. Wearing foot protection is recommended, as you may launch off a slippery ledge. However, depending on the current climate, you can still experience good surfing conditions during spring and fall. The best time to visit is during low tide in the summer when the weather is warm, and the sky is clear. Launching from here also allows easier access to breaks east of the beach. Locals and intermediate surfers prefer this spot for a more exciting, thrilling experience. The other spot is on the wind-shadowed grass along the parking lot. It is much easier and safer, with many shorelines to lay out lines. If you’re a beginner, it’s best to launch in the sand at the east end of the beach. It has become a favorite spot for locals and tourists to do water-spot activities, including kitesurfing. Mokuleia Beach is renowned for its strong winds and big waves. Instead, rig on the grassy area on the north side of the beach, and carry your gear with you. Remember not to ride in the coned-off swimming area. Stop at this point until you feel comfortable enough to navigate the reef. If you’re a beginner, avoid going upwind to Lanikai, as there are many barely submerged reefs, and the beach is pretty rocky. What a blast to watch! We went to Castles Beach afterwards for some casual bodyboarding! Beware of reefs! When we were there, I sat on a homemade beach swing in the shade and watched my girlfriend learning to kite surf. Kitesurfing here during the dawn is another highlight! The horizon is so clear that you will witness this astounding red light from the mountains for a few minutes as the sun rises. The best time to visit is from June to August.Īlways check the weather condition before you start kiting at Kailua Beach. The vast bay offers excellent conditions for beginners and experienced kitesurfers alike. The trade winds blow all year round, ranging from 15 to 35 knots from the ENE. Only because we wanted to gain this experience and knowledge.Kailua Beach is the most popular kitesurfing spot on the island. We do it right! Before we open our school we spent 3 full years, 6 whole windy seasons, traveling around the world and teaching hundreds of students, thousand of hours, in ALL different types of conditions, gear and school set ups. And you don't need to pay anything extra for it. Those are 2 things you don't have to worry about, safety and gear. We also have vests and helmets as safety gear. You can rest assured we will make sure you have exactly what you need to help you learn the best way possible. It all changes with the wind and student level. Not just to have good gear but also to choose the right gear (kite and board sizes and models) at the time of the lesson. When it comes to the gear it is a big and important part of our job. We have a good variety of equipment that we will choose according to the conditions and type of student at the time of the lesson. Newest models kites, control bars, harnesses and boards. Safety, safety, safety! We're both IKO Level 2 instructors and we follow the guidelines strictly. Our goal is to make you an independent rider but our priority is to make sure you're safe, as well as the beaches and it’s other user groups. If you are on the fence about pulling the trigger on lessons, just do it, you won’t regret it! Known it can be expensive, but it’s an investment in your future happiness (and safety), especially if you put your trust in Fellipe / KiteboardingPara. What also sets him apart from the from rest was his teaching ability, always with clear and calm explanations. There are a lot “just okay” instructors on-island, but how Fellipe really impressed was because he himself was an expert waterman, knew kiting, foiling, winging inside and out. He was extremely knowledgeable about both the locations and gear we were using, this wasn’t his first rodeo. I was only in Hawaii for one week and Fellipe helped me plan my lessons to get the maximum benefit and save time/money. He was professional, friendly, safety conscious and always on time. My WingFoil instructor, Fellipe, was amazing. Flag as inappropriate I don’t normally write reviews but KiteboardingParadiseHawaii was so great I wanted to support a local small business.
